“As Now, So Then”

For some reason this morning I’ve had a phrase stuck in my head. I heard this phrase in a sermon once about two years ago and I’ve never forgotten about it. The phrase was: “as now, so then.” The point behind this short phrase is that you will be in the future what you are now. Becoming a great father or husband doesn’t happen overnight. You don’t suddenly “grow up” and leave your immaturity behind. You don’t all of a sudden start seeing people as souls and start looking for ways to show them how much you love them.

I want to encourage you this morning to join me in living intentionally. Make decisions now that will shape who you will be in the future. Don’t wait to “grow up,” start working on having the characteristics of a good husband/wife even if you aren’t married. Start showing others how much you love them and how much you want to see them in heaven. Begin to live intentionally now and don’t forget “as now, so then.”

How can we live our lives intentionally? We have to look towards the future and make decisions now that will get us to that goal. For example, if you are a man who is disrespectful to women don’t assume that getting married is going to change that. Instead, why not start being respectful to women now. Make it a habit and lifestyle now and you will more than likely follow that pattern in the future.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this idea! Feel free to leave a comment down below with your thoughts, ideas, comments or concerns. Hope you enjoyed today’s random thought. -Jack D.
