The Benefits of Positivity

“If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life”

The above quote is one of the many quotes that I have heard here during my stay at Bear Valley. Of all the quotes I’ve heard however, this one is probably my favorite. It’s my favorite because of the fact that it encourages positive thinking.

In Philippians 4:8 Paul writes: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” (ESV)

Paul here is encouraging the Philippian church to set their mind on positive things. This was a lesson that the church sorely needed, because their thoughts were constantly on things that were negative (Philippians 2:1-5).

Paul wanted them to get their act together and think about good things! The reason he wanted them to think about good things is because of what that kind of mindset accomplishes. For example, if you think positively then you:

Can be cheerful even when things aren’t going your way (Phil. 1:12-14).

Can do all things without grumbling and complaining (Phil. 2:14).

Can be content in every situation no matter how dire it may seem (Phil. 4:10-13).

These are only a few examples of what a positive attitude can accomplish. Paul made sure that he was always positive in his thinking and wanted others to do the same

What about us? To be honest there are a lot of times in my life that I have a negative mindset. When I reflect on those days, I realize how bad they really are. The funny thing is that they weren’t bad because of circumstances or people, but because of my attitude. You see, if you think negatively then everything that happens to you will seem negative. The opposite of this is true too however.

I want to encourage you to start thinking positively. Do this by looking for the good in everything. For example, when things aren’t going your way, look for the things that are. When you feel like your day could not get any worse, sit down and write out all the wonderful things that have happened that day. You’d be amazed at how much better your days get when you just think positively.

As the quote says above, if you love your life and see it positively, you will never dread a single day. Thinking positively causes you to love every minute that God has given you. Become a positive thinker today, and start reaping the benefits.   – Jack D.
